A transparent engine with a polished native app — free and AGPL-3.0.

Free & open source.

No price, no trial, no subscription. MeetGist is released under AGPL-3.0 — read it, build it, self-host it. You bring your own free-tier AI key; everything else is on you and your Mac.

The native Mac app is here — you build it from source in two commands (make install-app). A notarized one-click download is on the way. See the install guide.

FAQ

Is it free?

Yes — MeetGist is free and open source under AGPL-3.0. No price, no trial, no subscription. You only use your own free-tier AI API key.

Does a bot join my meeting?

No. MeetGist records locally on your Mac by capturing system audio + your microphone. Nobody sees a bot in the call.

Where does my audio go?

It stays on your Mac. Audio is only sent out when you transcribe, and only to the AI provider whose API key you supplied (e.g. Gemini).

What do I need?

An Apple-Silicon Mac on macOS 14+, and your own AI API key (Gemini has a free tier).

Will it ever cost money?

This version is free and stays open source. A future version may add optional extras, but the core remains free and AGPL-3.0.

Is it really open source?

Yes — the whole thing is AGPL-3.0 on GitHub. You can read it, build it, and self-host it. This is a personal open-source project, provided as-is with no warranty or commercial support.
