Recording a meeting
Start / stop
Click Record in the MeetGist window or menu-bar item, or press the global hotkey ⌥⌘K, to start. Press it again (or Stop) to finish — MeetGist then transcribes and writes the notes automatically. You get a notification when the notes are ready (about 30–120 seconds after you stop).
What gets captured
Each session is a folder under your output directory (Settings → General → output
folder; default ~/Documents/meetgist) containing:
| File | What it is |
|---|---|
system.m4a | The other side of the call (system audio, stereo) |
mic.m4a | Your microphone (mono) |
transcript.md | Verbatim, timestamped |
polished.md | Clean minutes |
summary.md | TL;DR / decisions / action items |
Tip — wear headphones
With headphones, the other side’s voice never leaks into your microphone, so the two tracks stay cleanly separated and diarization is more accurate. System audio is captured at the OS level, so headphones don’t affect it.
